BEIJING – China is working to deepen ties with Latin America. President Xi Jinping made a four-nation tour of Latin America’s emerging economies in July when he visited Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Cuba. A year earlier, President Xi made a state visit to Mexico and in November, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto will visit Beijing.
As Chinese businesses focus their expansion plans on Latin America, the Institute of the Americas and the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences will hold a seminar on October 16 in Beijing on “Investing in Latin America: Opportunities and Lessons Learned.”
The day-long seminar will examine Mexico’s energy reform and the new business opportunities the reform will create in Mexico. There will also be a discussion of Latin America’s energy future. Specialists in corporate social responsibility will talk about the rules and regulations of doing business in Latin America and Chinese business executives will relate their experiences – both good and bad – with investing in Latin America.
